Itinerary
Evolve Back Coorg
Evolve Back Coorg sits on 300 acres of working coffee and spice plantation in Siddapura, bordered by the Cauvery River on one side and forest on the other. The property offers private pool villas, an Ayurvedic spa, and a set of on-site experiences — plantation tours, coracle rides, coffee tastings — that make it possible to spend several days without leaving the estate. Off-property, the district of Kodagu (Coorg) offers elephant camps along the Cauvery, Tibetan monastery complexes, the river's source temple at Talakaveri, and jeep tracks into the Western Ghats hills. The itinerary balances time at the resort with four or five half-day excursions across the district.
Best season: October to March. Coordinate transfers and guided excursions through the resort concierge.
Day 1 — Arrival & Plantation Orientation
Morning: Arrive at Evolve Back Coorg. Check in to your villa. Light walk around the estate grounds to orient yourself.
Afternoon: 4x4 plantation tour of the coffee and spice estates. Introduction to coffee cultivation — from cherry to bean.
Evening: Spa session or pool time. Dinner at the resort featuring Kodava cuisine. Stargazing from the estate.
Day 2 — Elephant Camp & Coracle Ride
Morning: Drive to Dubare Elephant Camp on the banks of the Cauvery River. Observe the resident elephants — feeding and bathing routines. The camp operates under Karnataka Forest Department management.
Afternoon: Return to the resort for a coracle ride on the Cauvery. These round, hide-and-bamboo boats are among the oldest river craft used in peninsular India.
Evening: Ayurvedic massage or free time at the resort.
Day 3 — Talakaveri & Namdroling Monastery
Morning: Drive to Talakaveri, the source of the Cauvery River, set at around 1,280 metres in the Brahmagiri hills. The temple marks the spot where the river is said to emerge from a small tank before flowing 800 kilometres to the Bay of Bengal.
Afternoon: Continue to Bylakuppe for Namdroling Monastery — one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist settlements in India, established in 1963 when Tibetan refugees resettled here following the Chinese occupation of Tibet. The Zangdog Palri temple complex houses large gilded Buddha statues and painted murals in a Tibetan architectural style.
Evening: Coffee tasting session at Evolve Back. Relaxation.
Day 4 — Mandalpatti Peak & Chiklihole Reservoir
Morning: Early jeep ride to Mandalpatti Peak, a high grassland viewpoint in the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary range. Mist typically sits low over the Ghats valleys in the morning.
Afternoon: Stop at Chiklihole Reservoir on the return — a quiet irrigation reservoir set among plantation country.
Evening: Birdwatching on the estate, pool time, or a visit to an Ainemane (traditional Kodava ancestral house) on-site.
Day 5 — Plantation Exploration & Farewell
Morning: Optional visit to Abbey Falls, a two-tiered waterfall set in coffee plantation and forest, or a deeper walk through the resort's own estate with a plantation guide.
Afternoon: Spa, swimming, or a coffeeology session at the resort — a structured tasting and processing demonstration.
Evening: Farewell dinner at the resort.
Day 6 — Departure
